Frequently asked questions

The things travellers ask us most, answered. Still curious about something? We’d love to hear from you.

Before you book

When is the best time to go on safari?

Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the dry season from June to October offers the easiest game viewing as animals gather around water. The Great Migration river crossings in the Serengeti peak between July and September. January to March is calving season in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu — wonderful for predators and newborns. We’ll match your dates to what you most want to see.

How far in advance should I book?

For travel during peak season (June–October and the December holidays) we recommend reaching out six to twelve months ahead, as the best camps fill early. For green-season travel, three to six months is usually comfortable. That said, we can often arrange shorter-notice trips — just ask.

Can you tailor a trip for a honeymoon, family, or special occasion?

Absolutely — every Palatial Tours journey is built around you. Tell us who’s travelling, your pace, your budget, and what matters most, and we’ll write an itinerary to fit. Honeymoons, multi-generation family trips, photographic safaris and accessible travel are all welcome.

Getting there & paperwork

Do I need a visa to visit Tanzania?

Most visitors, including Canadian and most European passport holders, need a visa. You can apply online in advance through Tanzania’s official e-visa portal, or in many cases obtain one on arrival. We’ll send you up-to-date guidance for your nationality once your trip is confirmed.

What vaccinations do I need?

Requirements vary by your home country and recent travel history. A yellow fever certificate is required if you’re arriving from a country with risk of transmission. Many travellers also consider routine vaccines and malaria prophylaxis. Please consult a travel clinic four to six weeks before departure — we’ll provide a checklist, but medical advice should come from a professional.

Do you arrange airport pickup and internal flights?

Yes. Your trip includes meet-and-greet at Kilimanjaro International Airport and all ground transfers in our own safari vehicles. Where an itinerary calls for light-aircraft hops between parks, we arrange those too and include them in your quote.

Money & what’s included

What’s included in the price?

Each safari page lists its inclusions and exclusions in full. As a rule our quotes cover accommodation, park and conservation fees, your private guide and vehicle, meals as specified, and listed transfers. International flights, visas, travel insurance, tips and personal spending are typically not included — but we spell it all out so there are no surprises.

How do payments work?

After we agree on your itinerary, we secure your dates with a deposit, with the balance due before travel. We’ll share exact figures, accepted payment methods and the schedule in your personalised quote. We never ask for full payment before your trip is confirmed in writing.

On safari

Is it safe?

Tanzania is one of Africa’s most established and welcoming safari destinations. You’ll travel with an experienced, licensed guide who knows the parks intimately and prioritises your safety around wildlife. We monitor conditions continuously and brief you on simple guidelines so you can relax and enjoy the experience.

What should I pack?

Light, neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer for chilly morning game drives, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a good camera and binoculars. Luggage on light aircraft is usually limited to soft bags around 15 kg. Once your trip is booked we send a detailed, season-specific packing list.
